About the "Research Days in Education"

Dear colleagues,

We have the honour to announce our first educational research meeting, "Research Days in Education" (RDE), to be held at the École Supérieure du Professorat et de l’Education (ESPE) (School of Teaching and Education) of the University of French Polynesia (UPF), from Thursday, May 3rd to Friday, May 4th , 2018.

Like the national ESPE network symposium "Le Printemps de la Recherche en ESPE ", which is organized annually in Paris, France, the ESPE of French Polynesia is also organizing a conference to invite students, educators and researchers to reflect on important educational issues.

In France, the ESPEs were created in 2013, by replacing the traditional teacher training institutes (IUFM). Today, ESPEs are specific components of French universities, which require completion of a two-year master’s degree programme to become primary and secondary school teachers and pedagogical advisers. The creation of the French Polynesian ESPE took place between the years 2014-2016. This new educational structure supports improved conditions for educational dynamism and the development of research activities within the University of French Polynesia. Following this new change, the research team “Équipe d'Accueil Sociétés Traditionnelles et Contemporaines en Océanie” (EASTCO - EA 4241) incorporated a new research theme called “Transmission” (education and culture in Oceanian context today), which aimed at bringing together the academics, who were interested in educational research. The researchers working on the ‘transmission’ theme have already initiated several research projects and published their work.

However, The French Polynesian ESPE is a small institution, which has a small teaching force and a few academic scholars who are specialized in research in Educational fields. Moreover, the distance between the French Polynesian University and other national and international educational research centers, makes collaborative research work difficult. It is, therefore, necessary to unite local resource persons and institutions to create the required reflective dynamics.

This first event, "Research Days in Education”, aims to bring together students, researchers and other stakeholders in the Polynesian education system to reflect on current issues regarding education in French Polynesia. This first meeting aims at providing a platform to exchange expertise, discuss and share the results of the research activities that have been carried out in the French Polynesian context.
